Describe
This artwork includes a typewriter, letters, pencils, scissors, rulers, and other materials you would use at an office. To make these objects, she used the techniques of handĀ building and slab building . She uses porcelain and black stain to create her finished products. To embellish it she just takes some black stain and makes it in a way that it looks like paper at first. It is not utilitarian. I feel like line is a big thing in her artwork because without it it wouldn’t look like it was made out of paper when you first look at it. It is what makes her artwork unique. The shape/form of her artwork is also a big one. She mostly builds everyday things and makes them look like they are made out of something other than clay so the shape is important since it has to look like real life objects, not abstract.
Analyze
All of the elements are displayed like someone would display their office objects to use them. They are positioned in a way that makes you want to look at it twice because it looks like normal office objects on top of a table. They work really well together because they are what you would see at an office because they are materials someone would use every day at work. They also create a sense of unity because they were glazed the same way, with the black lines. There is also a great balance between the pieces because they all are glazed the same way and are things someone would put together, so them being glazed the same way creates this harmony. She put emphasis on the typewriter by havingĀ the lines be a little thicker
Interpret
In an interview she said that she doesn’t think too much about meaning, she just builds it and lets the viewer interpret it the way they want. She hopes that people find a meaning and learn more about her and also themselves. My hypothesis is that she makes her artwork for everyone to enjoy and interpret it the way they want. It is to help people find themselves and understand themselves when looking at her work. When she said she doesn’t spend too much time thinking about the artwork when building it, I thought it was really interesting. She lets the viewers take it all in and find its meaning based on things that happened in their lives. She does that with most of her artwork.
Evaluate
In my opinion, this artwork is very successful. It is beautiful, it has so much craftsmanship, the design is really though of to make sure it looks good, and it is super original. I have never seen an artwork like hers where it is all white and is only glazed with black lines. It is so thought of because when people look at it they think it is made of something else other than clay. For me, I didnt even consider clay when I first looked at it. Like I said, it is very original because no one has ever done something like this when glazing their artwork. She also builds everyday objects and makes them look cool instead of just an ordinary object. I have tried to make my artwork have everything hers has. I dont think mine would look as good as hers because it all just blends together seamlessly and the glazing is so unique.
